About

I’m Lauri Shore, author and translator

I’ve always liked to read and write stories. Recently, I’ve been putting more effort into finishing the drafts… and recently, I have taken the step to go for the lifelong dream to share the fruits of my labor with the world! (Though I write in English, it should be noted that it is not my native language.)

So what kind of stories and projects am I working on then? Well, currently I am working to publish the third book in a poetry collection, I have a dozen of narrative projects in mind, about half of which belong to a sci-fi / fantasy series I often refer to as ‘The Humongous Project’. It’s a project I’ve worked on for the past decade, and it’s still incomplete (though almost half-way done with the first full drafts!). Then I have a story about a twisted relationship that gets spiced up by a zombie apocalypse; a couple of stories that revolve around the concept of time-travel, another one is about murder, and a couple of stories that center around more romantic themes (both stories are from totally different perspectives, but both have ‘non-traditional’ romances). And then there is what I called ’the processing project’, to unravel how I ended up moving to another country and how I came back home, and some of the things that happened in between.

What’s going to be common for all of these projects is that I tend to write dark stuff. I don’t go too easy on the characters, nor on the reader. All stories will be rated as ‘mature’, with possibly explicit content and themes related to sex(uality), violence and abuse, substance abuse, identity crisis, … with sprinkles of lighter themes and events here and there.

Another thing that is going to be common for all stories is aiming for some level of realism, while also embracing complete exaggeration. My writing style has been rather heavily influenced by the styles and expressions used in video games and Japanese manga/anime, and with some of the projects I’d like to explore what’s considered acceptable in literature. I also like testing out different genres and ways to deal with plot timelines – the zombie story for example has a pretty neat twist about how the timeline works!

The purpose of this blog and the social media accounts is simple: to share information about the prose projects, their progress, and publishing. The plan is to self-publish the stories as e-books on as many platforms as I just can (currently I’m publishing on Amazon Kindle and Google Play Books), and use this blog and the social media accounts to advertize the books and gain as wide a readership as just possible.

If you got curious about my writing projects, drop a follow to this blog and the social media accounts!

Cheers,
Lauri Shore
